Using the Zodiac as a Guide

Astrology is based on the belief that personality is determined by the season in which a person is born. People born in between 20th of April and the 21st of May are Tauruses, bound to be stubborn but steadfast, a good friend with a mean streak if crossed, just like the bull for which it is named. Taursues are supposed to be appealing to the eye, loyal, adept in academics and homebodies. In my experience, the generalities about the zodiac signs often hold truer for the individual than do the daily horoscopes derived using divination. Day-to-day predictions are much more difficult to get right, even when written in very broad generalities.

What a person values and how he will react to certain situations is a mix of innate traits and learned behaviors. Astrology is used to explain the natural predispositions of people. All signs have positive and negative traits associated with them. Knowing the innate predispositions of your sign can help you suppress or positively redirect the negative traits and use the positive traits to your advantage. A Taurus, for instance, is prone to sloth. Knowing that, a Taurus can combat the laziness by properly eating, exercising and keeping her energy up. Also, finding activities that are enjoyable will keep the Taurus engaged and less likely to give in to her natural sloth.

There are many people who believe the compatibility theories based on sign compatibility. Taurus is an earth sign and usually is compatible with other earth signs, Virgo and Capricorn. The compatibility is for either friendship or romance. Of course the complexity of human nature makes relying solely on zodiac sign compatibility to choose friends and romantic interests is a bad idea. However, using knowledge of the zodiac as a basis for understanding can guide your relationship decisions.
