The Astrologer
Yajaira Cedeno
Twenty thousand years ago Paleolithic carvings and bones depicted lunar tallies or motion of the moons. Four thousand years ago, in what is now known as Iraq, sky watching led the way to its discovery by Alexander the Great where he carried out that knowledge of Astrology to Greece in 331 BC thus creating a career of the true and false prophets.
The Mayans, through their 260 day calendar, contained one's destiny by the day and year of an individual's birth. Leaders, like Tiberius of the Roman Empire consulted with the Astrologist Thrasyllus. In middle-ages Astrology was taught in universities throughout Europe.
A well known prophet during the Renaissance Period, Dr. John Dee, who was not only an Astrologist, but also, an Astronomist, Mathematician and practiced Magic, counseled one of the most successful Queens of all time, Queen Elizabeth I.
Johannes Kepler, a German Astrologer predicted Wallenstein to be triumphant in Thirty Years' War and also predicted Wallenstein's demise by one of his own soldiers, which held true on the date Kepler predicted.
Evangeline Adams brought astrology to the Americas in the 1900's and was even arrested for her predictions for which she went to trial for rather than pay a fine; only to make a prediction of the judge's child that proved overwhelmingly correct and was acquitted.
Various studies have been made to determine the truth behind Astrology but the most prolific of them all was Michelle Gogolan's study in 1953, where he found statistical correlations to the stars and career choices.
Today, Astrologer's can be found in one's neighborhood or a simple Google search. For many, one's Horoscope is used for mere entertainment, for others, it is what determines their life's choices. One thing's certain, the Astrologer will always have someone, skeptic or not, willing to listen.
